Brothers Frans and Michael Woerden ran thousands of races together. In the summer of 2016 they thought it was a good time to organize a competition themselves. A marathon! It became 42 km on quiet roads, along rivers, nature reserves, a former railway. One big round came on the map along all 8 villages of the municipality. A unique route along the most beautiful places in their own municipality: “De Ronde Venen”.

The idea was received with great enthusiasm, both by runners and people who wanted to help them with organizing. Runners ran on Nov. 19. 2017 the 1st edition of De Ronde Venen Marathon.

The course was divided into districts; with a district head for each. They were responsible for a good passage in their “area”, with the many traffic controllers and volunteers from their own area. So with local knowledge!
